My queen paper wasp (caught locally) Took down a midge today and later laid her first egg. Unfortunetly I cannot get a shot of the egg but I have pics of her laying it and the take down of the midge.

The take down:

I just gotta ask. How do you clean a wasp cage without great amounts of pain?

Cool Polistes fuscatus you got there! I caught a queen about a month ago and was going to keep it but I decided to release it.

You take her out for major cleanings. For minor spot cleanings I just do what I need to do and she is just content to sit and watch.

How much worse is she gonna get when she has a brood though?

No change really the worker may be a little pissyer but that is easy to work around. As long as I don't get to close to the nest area which is the foam square in the pics I should be just fine.
