I believe I was either 12 or 13 at the time, and as an 18 year old turned fanatic and breeder I couldn't have started soon enough!

I was 38 at the time. I'm actually surprised it wasn't a lot sooner, because I was fascinated with bugs as a kid and at one point considered becoming an entomologist.

I was 23 or 24. I had always kept reptiles and saw a bright orange tarantula at the LPS that I decided I had to have. Needless to say it wasn't the best choice for my first, but it turned out ok.

My first tarantula (Avicularia avicularia) was a gift for my 32nd birthday.

I was 8. Found an A. chalcodes in Arizona. Then got a G. porteri, B. emilia, Cyclosternum fasciatum (what it was called back then), and a giant female P. regalis which promptly escaped in a small house with lots of us kids(!) Never saw her again. Then lost interest in Ts between age 13 and 18, at which point I discovered ordering slings on the internet. Have had Ts consistently for the last 16 years.

I got my first when I was already 47. I've always liked spiders, but I somehow never considered keeping them as pets. Then I got my first two (AF B. emilia and B. auratum) from someone locally who just didn't want them anymore and a week later I started reading everything about tarantulas I could find and trying to decide which one I wanted next...

I was 20, got engaged to an entomologist and went hunting for tarantulas and found some A. chalcodes in southern Arizona...the addiction grew from there thanks to my enabling fiance

I was 17...had just moved into my first apartment and already had too many cats. Woke up one day and decided I wanted a new pet and had been a fan of spiders since I was a small child so I went to Petco, saw a sweet little juvenile G. porteri (sold to me as G. rosea) and took her home :D She's secretly my favorite still, don't tell my other Ts :p

I bought my first T, my wonderful Lasiodora difficilis, as a gift to myself for my 24th birthday and I've been going strong ever since. :)
