Pokie or Peekie?

As pointed out by a poster before (sorry, can't remember who) Poecilotherias are lovingly called Pokies but we pronounce it pee-suh-luh-THI-ree-uh. Why?

We should call them Peekies. Maybe Peekaboos?

I always found Pokie to be odd considering the Poec in Poecilotheria should be pronounced ‘peek’ and not ‘poke’. The ‘oe’ and ‘ae’ in scientific names has an ‘ee’ sound as in the word tree. And the ‘c’ always has a hard ‘k’ sound as in kite. But yes, they should be called Peekies if sticking to proper pronunciation of the genus name.
