My husband's 4" T.Blondi has 6 legs underneath him and 2 legs out and barely moving. We are expecting a molt because he has not eaten and also turning dark. We hope we don't lose him he is one of my husband's Fav. spiders! :(

P.S. if anyone has any T.blondi molt pics i would like to see them

My adult male is doing the exact same thing at the moment. 6 under, 2 out. I hope there isn't some sort of conspiracy going on....

Well If it is doing the same thing he won't last much longer he will probably be dead in 15 to 20 mins **took that long for our T.Blondi to pass away** I hope he will be ok was he in Premolt to before this happened?

Maybe you should put him in ICU. Unless it is too late this morning, and if it is, I am so sorry for your loss. But I know by experience sometimes if they are in the death curl you can bring them back by putting them in ICU. Take care, Pam

ICU phonetically means "I-See-You" so in other words a tank were you may keep a close eye on things. A clear container with a moist paper towel as the substrate works fine. Conditions are easier to maintain within it, and it's easier to observe the spider.

Don't overdo things within the ICU though, as it could lead to the spiders detriment...

Hope this isn't too late to be beneficial :)

Best wishes

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that ICU ment intencive care unit. And that it should be located in a dark and quiet place.

Sorry for your losses.:(

This is why I'm scared to death to invest the $$ for a T. blondi...

I got one once a few years ago as a 2" sling. I did everything I could to maintain humidity at around 75%-80% and temp at about 75-80 degrees. That's what I think they should be kept at unless I'm missinformed. (If so please advise the correct numbers) It darkened up a bit only a week or so after being delivered and pulled a death curl for no clear reason just like this.

Some time later, working in a pet store, we got one that went the same way under someone elses care in the store about 2 or 3 weeks after it came in.

I've wanted to start keeping OW T's for years but for the fact that I've heard so many horror stories about how easy they curl up and die, and the prices make me not want to risk trying again.

I'm VERY interested in them and would LOVE to have such T's in my collection, but until somone can tell me what I did wrong and how to do it right so I can be at least 75% assued that I know what I'm doing, I will not likely risk the life of one of these critters by testing my own level of incompitence with their care!

I'm sorry about your blondi. It sucks to have a perfectly healthy spider just die on you.

I am sorry about your loss. I also lost my favorite spider last week to a bad molt. She was a curlyhair, and my baby. We had her for 2 years. I told Ron that I was going to quit getting attached to them. Take care, Pam

All i can say is when you get your next one, keep the humidity very high for a while letting it dry out occassionally, give the bedding a good soaking by puring a couple of glasses of water over it and keep a big full water dish.
hope it helps:confused:
