So I just bought an emperor scorpion for the first time. I've never owned an emperor scorpion before and I'm looking for some tips. I bought a heat pad that I have on the side of the tank and a shallow bowl. The temperature and humidity seem to be fine for it but it seems very inactive and I'm not sure if that's normal. any advice would be helpful.

I don't wanna be a troll, but if you did a quick search, you would find everything about emperors. You could also google and youtube"emperor scorpion care".All of this will bring up extensive care requirements and tips.Try that, and if there are still some unanswered questions, feel free to ask.

you're not being a troll, cold blooded animals are inactive when cold. Of course, it also be nearing death, sick, not hungry, nearing a molt, alot of things.

Then again, emperors are normally inactive. Thus considered "pet rocks". Is it out in the open and inactive? or in its burrow? If its in its burrow, it could be nearing a molt, cold, etc, and is probably normal.

If its sitting outside of a burrow and just laying there, something may be wrong.

well It definitely isn't cold with the heat pad I have on the tank so and its been not necessarily burrowing but its been hiding. its also very young so it could be about to molt im just really not sure.

Welcome to the scorpion hobby! You'll find that scorpions in general are generally inactive, though moreso with emps.It sounds like you're doing good.Maybe get an infra red heat lamp?I had 1 on my emps when I had them, and I saw them out and about every other night.

you really think I'm doing good because I'm pretty nervous for a first time owner?
and will the lamp make it more active? because I would really love to have an active scorpion.

"active" is a relative term though. Compared to humans, all scorpions are inactive like was said, some more than others. And when they are active, it's much more often at night when you are normally going to be asleep. Basically, if they are not hungry or not looking for a mate, ...why do anything then if you're a scorpion? lol, why do things that only eat and mate even exist anyway, ..getting off that idea before I fall off the edge. Anyway, I enjoy them by just knowing they are there and throwing a cricket in once or twice a week. They are interesting looking things to me, so just seeing them is OK to me. I have a lot though so I can watch some action every day if I wanted to. It kind of sounds like changing your expectations might help you from being disappointed with it, that is. if your scorp is healthy.

I'm not dissapointed at all, I think it is awesome really, I just want to make sure it is healthy, it's truly a beautiful creature.

They all have there own personality, I have 3. One is VERY lazy, while another is VERY active. Try getting more and putting them in a communal tank. You can watch them "socialize" and you will see the different personalities. And just like humans, you will see that some are just lazy.

And if money is not as issue for you, I strongly recommend getting a heat lamp with a red/blue/black bulb, ( red is the coolest ). But make sure you get the appropriate wattage for the size of your tank. If it is a 10 gallon, get nothing higher then 75 watts.

It is a ten gal so that is probably a really good idea, I'm just going to get up really early this morning to see how active it is.
