I'm not good at guessing but I want to say its maybe in the haitian brown family (Phormictopus cancerides)....Anyone who knows...am i even close to being right? :?

Also if I'm correct that has uricating hairs so its a new world tarantula.

is it defensive?

is it climb?

does it try to burrow?

Does it stay out in the open or does it try to hide?

Disclaimer: I have no clue so do not go by anything I say.

I guess B. vagans but that seems too easy.

Here is a pic of mine at 2 inches

the hairs on its abdomen is really red. its behavior so far is a little defensive and it eats a lot.. grows fast too. isn't this the L.Difficilis? that's just my guess..

bettleman: what is the scientific name for panama red rump?

I would say definately not B. vagans. Doesn't look the right shape to be a Brachy species... Hmmmm...

It really doesn't look like either Brachypelma vagans or Sericopelma rubronitens. I wouldn't rule out Brachypelma vagans completely though. I agree looks more like a Pamphobeteus or Lasiodora spp. More Pamphobeteus though.

Another wild guess.....

Probably a Phormictopus sp. No arrowhead shaped irridescence on the caput so , to me, that rules out Pamphobeteus. Has more of a purple sheen than any "red-rump" I've seen (but color means nothing so.....), the setae on the abdomen remind me of Phormictopus, and the general body structure just doesn't seem to fit anything but Phormictopus to me.
