I got my pink toe back in May 2023, I was told by the petstore that she was only a couple months old. She molted once on June 11, 2023 while she was I was on vacation and she was in a pet sitter’s care. Since then she had that dilemma with bad substrate so she didn’t eat for a long time and now after some consistency in eating since July 2024, she has started to turn to face the ceiling, crawl onto the ceiling, stick on the wall and not her web. I’m guessing she’s in need of a substrate change and I’m trying coco fiber and reptisoil this time because i’m worried the pot soil is not ideal anymore. I’m hoping that will help. Here are two pictures of her in the corner “in her web” but not on it as usual. The molting does worry me, I don’t think she’s full grown- especially if that pet store employee was right and she was just a couple months when I got her. The humidity is fine, I try to regulate it to make sure there is none. No live food is in her terrarium, she hasn’t eaten in a little while (roughly a month) but I haven’t seen her down near the ground to hunt. Any ideas about her molt? Thank you 🙏 IMG_9047.jpeg IMG_9046.jpeg

All my Avics hang out on the wall and ceiling from time to time. One hangs on the wall most the time and another sits on the wall right outside his web and runs into his web tunnel when disturbed. I see a lot of hanging upside down particularly before a molt. They molt less often the older they get, and often fast before molting.
Why do you have concerns about the substrate? Is it sopping wet? Moldy? Full of poop? They don’t need full substrate changes unless there’s a serious problem with it.

The substr
BE PATIENT!

It’ll molt when its ready
So that doesn’t sound too long to molt? No need to panic?

There are so many things wrong with this post....first, it wasn't months old, if it were it would have been pink in color and small enough to walk around on your thumb nail. The pet store was giving you a nice little story to sell a spider.

Second, it's climbing behavior is normal and exactly what one would expect from an avic, they're arboreal after all. The substrate doesn't need to be changed, in fact substrate almost never just needs to be changed, it doesn't go bad.

Also, not eating is normal, and is almost never a real concern, in fact, not eating is a perfectly normal part of EVERY tarantulas life.

Lastly, stop worrying about humidity, it's not significant and doesn't need to be monitored.

I find that having ventilation holes on the low side helps dry out the substrate, if you have any water spills. It can get pretty stagnant down there especially since it’s where crickets go to die.

Only making an assumption since I can’t see the bottom of the enclosure in the photos, but you should have ventilation down there to help turnover fresh air, even in perfect conditions, Avics needs good ventilation. Then you can rule out your T is clinging to fresh air at least.

Its normal for your tarantula to be up in a corner. It looks like its in a normal position. It might be taking up more “air space”.

as others have stated: substrate isnt really the issue. Unless youre keeping it super moist. Keep it dry. If youre misting too much or dropping to much water, that can lead the substrate to over saturate. And that is also dependant on the ventilation.

if you can take time to share photos of your entire enclosure, we can better assist.

its not a baby spider anymore, thats for sure.

as for feeding, it can be anything. Like I said, with more photos of enclosure, we can analyze the situation and provide better guidance.
