ok I recently got a P. ornata and I was wondering if anyone had a picture that shows how big these guys really are... or any large arboreals... I am wanting to expand my arboreal colection and was wanting some of the largest.

O.K. JohnnyJohnJon,
Here's at least one of my P.ornata that is roughly 8-8 1/2" and from what I have been told she isn't done growing yet. Close though. This is my Isis who is quite fast and onery.

I also have a huge P.formosa but she wasn't out and I don't like to tick off my Pokes. Have to respect their space. I'll try to get her the next time she is out but I did get her from Lariz so that should tell you something about her size if you have seen any of his big girls pics.

Goliath pinktoes ie. Avicularia braunshauseni?

How about those, how big are those supposed to get?

It's hard to hold up a ruler and take a pic of a poke at the same time. I measure them when the stretch out on the front of their aquariums.

Greensleeves- from what I have been told the T.apophysis can get quite a long legspan on them. Some people consider them to be the biggest T. out there as opposed to the T.blondi. I've heard of a 10-12" legspan on them. As for the A.braunshauseni, only time will tell since mine is a juvie.

I went looking for pictures of them and they didn't really look much different from a versicolor. Pretty though. It's really hard to tell how big they are without another Avic for scale.

If they are as non-confrontational as the rest of the Avics I might look into getting one some day. I like the look of a nice big spider, but I'm more into ones that will be less inclined to pick a fight/take a bite when they are scared. I also don't want something that will make me ill for days if it does decide a nip is in order. No pokeys for me. :)

The Avicularia braunshauseni is one of the more defensive of the Avics. But by no means are they like a pokey. They just arent as cuddly as an A. Avic. And what picture did you see where a braunshauseni looked like a versicolor? To me they look like a big A. Avic. Either way it would be pretty cool to have a hude Avic.

Well, I did a Google search and this is what came up (click link).

Especially in some of the upper pics they have nice burgundy butts, although I suspect the one down near the bottom is probably more accurate. Muted colours like I've seen an A. avic. to have, but with a muted red rear instead of all dark.

Funny how the big guys are so defensive when they're more powerful. Of course bigger also means more noticeable so maybe that's why they're more defensive. When you don't have as easy a time running and hiding, sometimes you have to face perceived threats head on.
