Hey all, got some Digital SLR questions. I have a Digital EOS, the Rebel xti. I have just the stock lens and acessories. I ordered a +20 filter and an LED flash ring (dimmable) today. I am wondering if anyone here knows a good setting or what settings to use for close ups in manual mode. Im not camera savvy at all and went to a couple photo forums.....way over my head. Example of my main problem;
A pic of a 1" sling, the pedipalps and carapce are in sharp focus...but the last legs are completley out.
Any input or good sites for beginners would be great.

as a rule of thumb, the closer to the subject you are, the less depth of field you'll have. to maximize depth of field, shoot at the smallest available aperture (f-stop with largest number). for the sharpest images, shoot at the highest available resolution and quality the camera allows and set the ISO to the lowest number you can. to use the on-camera flash on a p&s for extreme close ups, use a diffuser made from a piece of kleenex or similar taped over the flash.

good luck!
