I've a Tapinauchenius cf santivincenti that I acquired as a sling in the summer of 2015. I was pretty surprised when I noticed it had created what appears to be an egg sac. It's a soft white ball of dense silk about an inch in diameter. It's identical to every picture I've seen of an egg sac.
My spider is now around 4, maaybe 5, inches in leg span, and I had no suspicion that it had matured, nor did I know its sex. I now suspect it's female
It's never been in the presence of a male since I got it, and it's molted a few times.
I've read in other posts that I should remove the sac before it rots...
Thought I'd ask how common phantom egg sacs are?
