As I was watching a scorp I caught yesterday, I noticed something like a 5th pair of legs. They are not full legs, and they fold under the scorpions body when not in use. I checked in a scorpion anatomy pic. and they seem to be called pectines.

What the heck is that?

*lol* The pectines are used by many of the hobbyists to sex the scorps (not proven to be 100% successful) and they are a component of the scorpion's sensory system and are basically, feelers. It goes farther in depth, but I wont go into it right now, as the basic purpose is usually the best one to use.

adios,

As far as I know, they're primary funtion is as vibration sensors. They may also have chemical receptiors that take stock of the enviroment and pick up traces of pheramones (spelling, sorry).

With some scorps you can easily see with the lenght of them, for some other, you gotta count the number on them, sometimes its hard, because they are crossed and the number from male to female is short..
