Hello,

Just wondering how do you determine if a scorpion is a male or a female if they have overlapping pectine count?

For example

H. tamulus, (Fabricius, 1798). ♀ 27-34, ♂ 30-39.

I've have a couple of this sp with a pectine count of 30to34 and others and 29 pectine count

I assumed that the ones with 29 pectine count are females

How about the one with 30to34?

All of them are instar 2 by the way

There is a difference in basal plate in between the pectines.

it's much more difficult to tell the sex of the scorpling at such a young age. Maybe wait for a molt or two first then check the pair of them.
