Hey guys whats up...i received a half inch p.scrofa as a freebee in a recent order and im not sure its happy with its set up as its constantly on the side of the vile or on the lid itself.his enclosure is a two inch acrylic vile with slightly moist coco fiber about an inch deep.ive kept its substrate a little drier than what i would with most slings because i read that there very similar to g.rosea. at first i gave it a starter burrow but when i noticed it was hanging out on the wall i placed a piece of bark over the burrow as a hide..it didnt help. so 2 days ago i put in a vertical piece of bark as a wedge type hide and a climbing surface and no luck it just chills on the side is there anything else i can do to make it more comfortable? my temps are 80day72-75 at night. humidity is moderate in my t room. the t has been in my care for 2 weeks and is in premolt. thanks guys

My sub-adult P. scrofa is always out. Always. I've never seen it in its hide. Substrate is very dry with a water dish. Seems happy, eats well. Might be your substrate is too moist? Try deli cup, drier substrate...

I keep my 3 1/2" female p. scrofa on bone dry sub with a water dish. For your sling, I'd say let it's sub completly dry out, then give it a light mist once or twice a week. Probably twice since it's winter and the heater dries everything up so fast. They are pretty hardy. Love the colors on my female. Also they are no longer in genus Paraphysa. It's now Phrixotrichus scrofa.

I keep mine on dry sub, and moisten a corner once a week, since it's much too small for a water bowl. Good luck!

When did this change? I feel like the genus change to paraphysa was fairly recent.

Micheal Jacobi posted this on his Tarantula Bibliography back in May.
