Just decided to post some pics of an enclosure I made for a semi arrid species of tarantula. I plan to put a Rose Hair in it, though I'm tempted to try a G.pulchra since I have heard several people keeping them on the drier side (tell me what you think). My room is always 60% humidity, so I thought it shouldn't be an issue.

Anyway here it is, though my camera is terrible.

In my living room.

Just the tank.

Inside.

Wow, that looks awesome. However, don't you think that the height is a bit excessive, especially if you're thinking of keeping a terrestrial species in it? If your pet crawls up to the ceiling and takes a spill from there, it's likely to injure itself fatally.

I've had no problems in the past with height. Almost all my naturalistic enclosures are 2 feet or more in height. I've had many different T's in tanks like this for the last 7 years with no fall related deaths. Perhaps I've just been overly lucky.

Perhaps if the enclosure is suitable enough the T will not climb(which is unnatural behavior, at least for something that would die in a fall).

Looks great. The live plants are a nice touch. A couple of things:

Those look like succulent plants. I'm guessing they need a great deal of sunlight to thrive, which might not be in the best interests of your T.

I worry about the height of the tank. When I first got my rosea I made the mistake of putting her in a ten gallon with couple inches of substrate and a screen cover. I came home one day to find her dangling. The first thing I did after rescuing her was to get her a new enclosure that emphasized floor space, not height, and a non-screen cover. As nice as that enclosure looks, I wouldn't want your T to fall and rupture its abdomen.

Anyway, the enclosure looks really nice. Have you ever kept mantids? I would think they would do well in there.

G pulchra is an awfully $valuable$ T to test on a new enclosure idea (the cage is beautiful, though!). I would use G. rosea if you're willing to take the height risk. I've kept an adult A. seemani in a 20 high for 5 or 6 years without incident, but the risk is there.

Yes they are succulents. I have them in a tank that sits on a North facing window. So no direct sun. The plants (not the tank) have been at that window for nearly 6 months now (I didn't have the funds to settup the tank until now) and have been growing well.

Once again, I'll probably try a Rose Hair before I risk the G.pulchra, like I said before I've had many T's in tall enclosures like this and they never seem to want to climb. So I guess they enjoy their enclosures. Plus the large succulent takes up the majority of the top and keeps expanding outwards. So it will allow a cushioning effect if a T climbs and falls, it will also act as a barrier to climbing to high.

On another note, no I haven't tried Mantids. The sad thing about Canada is that we can only legally have the Green Mantids (not sure what species) since all the rest are banned by Agriculture Canada.

That really is overkill. Beautiful job setting up the tank as well. Good luck on testing out your rosea in there.

I have to say that that looks really awesome! I'm sure your G. rosea will love it in there!

That's a very beautiful setup! Would it be called a vivarium? What about trying a GBB in there instead?

I did think about that. I would love an adult GBB in there, but the current Canadian suppliers don't have any at the moment. And in a sense it could be a vivarium.

that is an awesome setup. I keep my G.rosea on the dry side, and she thrives in it.

That is more suitable for arboreal tarantulas, terristrial T's keep on tall tanks takes a good risks of falling and rupturing there abdomens.

True but, if G. rosea is kept properly its very unlikely it will climb at all.
