So it's molting on the side of the tank, almost near the top.
We packed tea towels under it so when it falls, it doesn't have very far to go.
Thought it was pretty retarted lol, but good thing we noticed it on time.

Anyways, we should know the sex after this molt hopefully.

You might be surprised that it won't fall lol I've thought some of mine were too but they always seem to manage fine. Though I've never had one molt while rappelling the side of glass....

It like slid down as far as the towel (not shown in pics, put in after I took them) and is laying there, still molting lol. So I'd say good thing we put it there. Epic FAIL to the regalis.

Lol epic pokie fail indeed. Good thing too, we just came in from being in the barn (horses) doing chores. It was almost finished too, maybe 10 - 15 mins and it was done? Looks pretty, but the molt looks male, darn.

Ah well i woulda bet on female due to the brightness of the spider on the pics (considering the fact that male P.regalis is brownish) but yeah right after a molt like that on a picture, it's impossible to say... Too bad my female is still a juvi we coulda gone for a 50/50 haha! But i thought about this molt today and realized that it's pretty interesting to know that a spider (at least, an arboreal) can stay stuck to a side of a glass and finish a molt while staying stuck there! I didn't know this and if I would of ever thought about it, i would of bet otherwise (unless of course he webbed the side of the tank prior to molting, which if so, I can't see on the pictures!) Now get that male to maturity and make it do what its made for ;)

In sexually dimorphic species the males only change colors upon maturing after a molt. Depending on the species, sometimes the tarantula obtains a size where there is simply no way for it to still be waiting to mature, and thus female can be a good guess.

But in this case it's neither. That one is to small to guess gender based on looks :)

Dr Acula: I still havn't taken any new pics of it since it molted. I've been sick with allergies and not feeling up to doing anything lol. And Chris doesn't do pictures, that's my department. Maybe if I remember I'll take some today.

synyster: That's what I thought, female from the bright markings.. but Chris looked at the molt and really thinks it is male. It's still young though, so who knows, maybe it'll end up being female lol. But it did fall onto the towel, so no, it wouldn't have molted successfully without the towel to fall on lol.
