i bought a mature pair of ornatas back in august or so. my breeder told me to wait for the female to molt before i mated them. he said that she had laid a sac during her current molt already. but it's been about a half a year and she's still eating and i have this mature male who's ready to go and maybe gonna die soon. is there any disadvantage to trying to mate them? it's not too big a deal if i cant...im sure ill be able to get my hands on another male if need be...but is there any problem in just going ahead with it?

You still should wait for a molt from the female before mating. This is what I was told before mating my L. parahybana. If a molt would occur after breeding then you surely loose the egg sac. This is what I was told from experts who mate species of T's all the time. Hope this is helpful.

Put 'em together. Heck, Pokies seem to cohabitate pretty well with a male. You really dont have much to lose.
