Orbweavers: Impossible in captivity...?

I tried keeping two and neither spun big enough webs and the webs they spun were so oddly shaped that when I put fruit flies in they fell right through it. Does the size of the spider matter...? Can they be fed on anything else? I had a bad experience with fruit flies, like when about 50 got loose in my room. Tank setup and any other tips would be greatly appreciated!

Which variety of orbweaver? Some need an immense amount of room, but in general orbweavers need more space than, say, a terrestrial spider of the same size.

hm, you can keep them on square frames I forgot where I saw this though.

or put a bunch of stick in an aquarium with good climbing surface

or put it in the corner of your room ^^ lol throw it crickets.

one time i tried keeping two marbled orbweavers and they didnt spin webs. the cellar spider i kept once spun a decent web but theres was lots of gaps and bugs fell through instead of getting stuck. would an orchard orbweaver do good in captivity?
