Found this little guy yesterday, I think it's a Neoscona sp.

During night time I put this metal ring in a bath filled with water and the spider on its top, so it can't escape... Fortunately it has made its web on the ring

That's really cool!

If you give it some kind of retreat/hide at the top it will be happier during the day, and be more likely to stay put.

I think you're right about Neoscona, but I don't know which one.

As far as I know, A. diadematus have little 'spikes' all over their legs, this one has none... and therefore I don't think it belongs to genus Araneus...

Not the best pictures but what about Larinioides patagiatus or similar species?
