...But not cause I think they're gross or anything. I bought a bunch of B dubia to start a colony awhile ago an I fed my first one today to my beardie... the part that's weird is it made me sad.... These little roaches are getting me all attached to them :( I bought them for feeders but I like them too much {D
Damn bugs. Haha.

I felt the same way!!!! Now I have MILLIONS Of them and its not so hard. But I have to be really diligent in NOT thinking of how cute they are as I feed them off, especially the newborns. Otherwise, it would be a mess... :D

But slaughtering them is the most fun part! It's great to drop stuff in and go "Now my pet! Destroy! Consume! Watch it run! (Insert generic evil laugh no 43 here) Attack! ... please?" I've only got into predatory bugs recently and now I'm totally hooked!
Just thought I'd add a taste of the opposing stance! :p
They are cute and all but... but...

I get pride in breeding bugs, watching them grow large and fat and I take pride in controlling my numbers I guess. Feel proud thinking "I am the reason this thingy is alive, and now it's gonna give life to trhe bigger thingy with all the teeth."

You could always get a species that isn't so cute . . . like B. laterallis? The dubia are kinda cute. That's why I got fusca at that show -- like dubia, only bigger.

(I saw Enchanted last night,* and squeeled in horror when the one of the pigeons ate a housekeeping cockroach :(.)

*Yes, I'm secretly an 11-year-old girl trapped in a hairy man's body.

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I always feel just AWFUL when I have to feed any of my dubias to anyone. I got roaches in the first place because I hate those house cockroaches so much, I thought it would be easy to feed a roach to a spider or lizard. But those dubias are just so darn cute. I did start a colony of B. lateralis, they are much easier to feed off. They are creepy, much like the ones you can find in some apartments.

I may just keep the dubias for pets and only feed off the B. lats.

I have two separate colonies, a third coming on Tuesday. I love insects, but I also love my tarantulas. So...I just try not to think about it. I just make sure the spider gets the roach, and I move on to the next tank.

LMAO! The way you phrased that! XD I remember one time I was feeding lizards and the such and they had all sorts bugs. And I came across some B. dubia roaches and.....

.....I couldn't do it. All the others were like crickets and beetles and such and I had no problem with those. I was like DIE DIE DIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEE! ;P {D But with the roaches I just couldn't do it. Instead I wound up setting them free when no one was looking.....

.....I'm such a genius! :D I ♥ roaches!

The secret is yelling DON'T LOOK AT ME over and over while your feeding off your roaches.

LOL! :D

But you still won't catch me feed them to any of my other pets. Are there any other feeder roaches that aren't cute that can feed to my future T's and what not? I'd like to know.

So tell me so I can add them to my "OK To Sacrifice List" :D

have you ever consider Blatta lateralis?
they breed like crazy, so if you don't find a reason to feed them off, they are going to multiply all over the place.
