Yes. Its common for tarantulas in general to keep in hiding until after the 2" mark. As they get older, they become more "Brave". As long as its eating you shold not worry too much. Make sure you mist the corner of the container (Hopefully you have it in a vial or deli cup) so that it can drink water if needed. Keep it slighty moist too. For food just get the smallest prey item you can buy (Pin head crickets or fruit flys) and make sure its dying or dead when you introduce it to the sling. (To prevent accidental death of your sling...you never know )Most people (Including myself) powerfeed slings to get them out of the "Danger" zone as slings need so much care.
Congrats on your new baby!
Now this sling has made a dirt pile of about 1/2 inch high and I still haven't seen it since my previous post. It has webbed up the cricket I put in a few days ago. Also some places on the substrate (peat moss) have bunches of tiny little white balls in what looks like maybe webbing also...1 of these is at the base of its dirt pile. Does this sound like it's in pre-molt :? ? Lastly should I remove the cricket & white balls? I'm really starting to want to search thru the pile to make sure it's still alive and well but am worried if I do I might accidentally poke and kill my baby since I can't see where it is . Any help would be GREATLY appreciated
Its still alive, don't worry I haven't seen my 2 B.angustum in over two weeks, there little homes are constantly being remodeled and the food is disappearing.
The little white balls sound like left over food, take them out to keep the cage clean. If you are worried about the slings getting munched on by a cricket during a molt then feed them prekilled food. I use roaches and smash the heads, remove any uneaten food the next day.
