We have a 5-6 cm N. Trepepii arriving in 2 days. I have set up a 30x20x15cm (12x 8 x 6 inch) acrylic tank. I have overfilled the water bowl, otherwise the sub is just damp to the touch. 20210505_131133.jpg 20210505_131121.jpg 20210505_131059.jpg 20210505_131133.jpg 20210505_131121.jpg 20210505_131059.jpg

I would sink the hide into the sub, not make it so prominent.

Leaves might mold as well.

The sub is this stuff, and the leaves are sold as terrarium decor, not from outside.

I would sink the hide into the sub, not make it so prominent.

Leaves might mold as well.
The cork bark is a tube, I can't sink it further unless I cut it up. It is half full with substrate

Nhandu sp slings like to dig in my experience, I'd worry about sub depth more than having the huge hide

that acrylic container is purty, I'm just over here using storage bins and junk around the house lol, I do plan on getting a nice one when my slings are adults. The end product looks nice

Is the hide still too big? It's 1/4 of the original piece. I can't make the sub any deeper without blocking the ventilation holes on the side.

Agree with @Edan bandoot about the sub.
I bought my NT around the same size as yours. I gave it about 6 inches of sub and it's made quite a burrow.
Any way you can add some vent holes nearer the top?

looks fine, just ditch the leaves....leave the floor clear of clutter...the latest pic looks good.

Nhandu IME, rarely burrow past the juvie stage. Depth is fine, they dont require excessive sub depth.

Looks pretty good to me! I don't keep T's, so I can't critique the care, but I personally like to add some live plants to my enclosures to add some enrichment, and to make it look a bit nicer. Paired with some springtails or isopods, and you have a pretty cool bioactive setup! That's how I tend to set up most enclosures, but a lot of it is personal preference :)

20210409_190237.jpg My set up. Kind of a poor angled pic but the room lights are off. The hide is sunk to the bottom and that end of the enclosure is 2/3 full of substrate. The other end is about half full.

I should have learned from my 2 chromatus about leaf litter and moss. Nhandu just don't like that stuff. I did end up removing most of it from this enclosure

The suggestions are good. I buried my N. tripepii's hide almost completely with about a thumb size hole at the entrance. It excavated the whole interior out over night. I keep it damp.
One thing I've noticed with my Nhandus, they don't seem to "like" any substrate coverings. They have pushed leaves and moss away from anywhere they may traverse, so I've taken most out.

As for adults not digging, I disagree. I have 2 adult N. chromatus that are excavating machines....one has even made connecting chambers. Maybe it's just my experience or maybe it's just because I gave them deep sub.... 20210516_135605.jpg 20210517_174333.jpg Freshly molted N. tripepii
