New to scorps, anyone have a second?

I'm a very experienced tarantula keeper and a lady friend of mine talked me into getting a scorpion. We both got emperors as they are among the best beginners. In 2 weeks I've not been able to get my girl to eat yet she keeps getting fatter and fatter :x upcoming molt? Gravid?? shes about 4 inches claws to tail.. What do you guys think?

if its not eating and getting bigger its mostlikely gravid
that looks to be a mature specimen so i dont think its going to molt

but not eating is normal for the bigger species like emps and flatrocks
they can go a looonngg time with out eating so dont worry realy about it
and if it is gravid its normal for them not to eat in the later stages
before having a brood

just let it be and try not to disturb it
so if it pops out babies she wont stress and eat them

but your all good its normal stuff

Don't mature emps have a dark colored telson?

plus, its telson is still orange. its not mature yet.

I really wish I had pictures to prove this.. But.. I had a 7" P. imperator.. She was 7" mouth parts to tip of tail..

She had an orange-ish stinger.. (Sorry dont remember the scorpion anatomy..) Its wasnt as bright orange as the one that is question.. But it was and dark orange..

I am pretty sure at 7" she was mature.. She died 3 months after I got her...

Anyways.. My point.. I thought P. imps. stingers were slighty orange-ish? :?

You're right. All of my emps have had orange colored telsons, that's a mature specimen.

i'm sorry but i've physically seen a mature emperor with an orange stinger. they mature when theyre dark red. maybe what you're saying is that it is more of an orange hue rather than red.

Dark orange is right for a mature, the one it the picture is yellow I say.

I'd say premolt, telson is light in color for mature unless it's the photo. The biggest thing here though is don't worry if it doesn't eat, think of P. imperators kind of like a G. rosea. They both seem to either like fasting for long periods of times, or they are voracious eaters. Don't worry it will swing back to eating in time if it isn't accepting right now, whether pre-molt or gravid only time will tell, I don't see any embryos from the side view as well making me think premolt, in the wrong lighting it can be hard to tell though.

More example, not saying a mature can't have a lighter telson than this, it's just not very common.
