New spiders pics

I went the weekend to a place near my house "Cuevas del Indio" and take pictures of two spiders... I did not found more because it was raining

Thanks... yes is a nice place to live, that "jungle" is a National Park that is close to my house... It have caves with bats, big rocks to climb, smal falls and the best part is that is in the city. Is my very private jungle

But Im still jealous of you guys... that can buy any T from the world

Beautiful pics!! Those look like wolf spiders to me! I have GOT to get to Venezuela!! lol! Problem is, if I went there, I probably would never leave!! hehe!

Ines,

I don't know how true it is, but I have read that T. blondi are also found in northern Venezuela, as well as T. apophysis. I think what I read said that their range sort of blends together in the middle. One is more northeastern and the other more northwestern. Don't quote me on that though, lol!

I think is not legal, petstore do not sell them because is illegal, the amazonas tours teach people how to cach them, but I think people have to return it

T Blondi is from the Amazonas... north of Brazil, south of Venezuela (maybe some came to the north )

Lol! my mistake! For some reason I was thinking of Brazil and Guyana as north of Venezuela. Yeah, from my reading I've seen their range extends through Brazil, Guyana and Venezuela. I guess that would be central to south. What I read had something more to do with the comparison of range between T. blondi and T. apophysis! T. apophysis being exclusive to Venezuela. I'll try to find the info again when I have more time and post it.

Hi Paul, yes about 3 times... but only to Puerto Ayacucho (the capital). I am planing to go after the rain period.

Right now I am looking for information and comparing prices, people that go there have two options:

Very spensive but very comfortable the camps, they are in the middle of the jungle, have to go in helicopter or boat and have a lot of facilitys (directv, hot water, swimming pool, jungle trips, etc). The aproximate cost is $500 for 3 days

The other way is taking a plane to Puerto Ayacucho (about $70) and hire a local guide to go into the jungle.

The other place I want to go is "La Peninsula de Paraguana"... the house of the greenbottle blue and the sun tiger

I live in central clifornia and we have a plethora of spiders running around here that look extremely similar to those you photographed which cary their eggs around as depicted in your pic and then carry the sligs around on their abdomen for a while after hatching out. What was the legspan on those anyhow? The common ones here average just about an inch but there is one jumbo species that grows to about 2 inches.

Beautiful area you live in from that first pic as well. Makes me miss a house I lived in on a hillside in the woods in Kentucky a number of years back. Walk out the back dfoor and you are literally in the forrest! Used to find all sorts of interesting insects and arachnids, but I was blown away the the diversity in the reptiles compared to what I've seen here in California having grown up here before living there.
