Got a new huntsman today at a reptile show! I’ve had my eye on this species for a long time and knew I had to get it. The label said “Desert huntsman”. I’m assuming the scientific name is “Cerbalus aravaensis”?

Currently, no one really knows which Cerbalus species they are. All of them are exported from Egypt. They're currently labeled as one of the three: Cerbalus sp. "Egypt", Cerbalus negebensis, or Cerbalus aravaensis.

That is a very shiny chonker :)
Reminds me of Carparachne aureoflava, does this one also do cartwheels?

No, this species is supposedly known for creating trapdoors. But in my experience, a small portion will create them, but a lot of them won't. Even with the right and proper substrate, a lot of them won't ever create trap doors, or at least in captivity that is.

Is heat necessary? Do I need to get a heat mat or ceramic heat emitter? I’ve heard of some people using either, just not sure if it’s 100% needed. I will go get one today if that’s the case.

That was my guess. I heard they burrow during the day to escape the heat and come out at night when it’s cool. But I wasn’t sure

A lot of Research needs to be done to successfully keep these.

They're quite tolerable to most warm temperatures. So they'll be fine without them if the room is warm.

They do quite fine in captivity.

define warm, I keep my apartment at around 71. Would simply adding a led light above its enclosure be warm enough.

When I had mines, I just used a space heater to keep my room warm. I would recommend keeping it 75F+ if you can. Adding a heating lamp could be fine as long as it's not too hot to where it's roasting or overheating it.
