Yesterday I went by a local T shop, you know, just looking.
Well they had a newly matured male cobalt blue for $10.00.
He is tiny in size, but big in attitude.

So, its breeding time. But I'm looking for advise for you all in this regard. I dont want to just put him in with the female to be consumed. To tell the truth, I'm a little scared.

I'm going to feed him for a week or so to get his weight up.
Please let me know what you think.

Fire an email over to Martin H or Volker VanWorth...

They both seem to be the resident asian spider breeding experts here.

You are going to have to wait until the male makes a sperm web to charge his palps. Best way to make sure female gets pregnant is to introduce male to her enclosure, observe the breeding, then take the male out untill he produces another sperm web (about a week or so) then intro him again, you should breed them about 3 times to make sure that she is gravid.

From my haplopelma breeding experience the males and females seem to be very nice with each other. The females are receptive. THis may vary between species however.

Which is very strange, Jacen, since you're pairing up 2 different species.

Oops, sorry Ernie. It's a little inside joke between me and Tarantula. ;)
BTW, I wish you the best of luck on your Cobalt breeding project. :)

Sam,
No,
Turns out she was with eggs when I bought her.
She droped a sac, but ate it.

I sent the male to Type-o to breed with his. His molted soon after mating. So all was lost..

don't worry, breeding H. lividum is really easy and very calm. In my experience they are less "aggressive" than most Brachypelma sp.!

see also this thread (scroll down a little bit): >>click here<<

all the best,

A new book

After all of the threads I've seen receintely on the mating of tarantulas and the "comentary" that occompanies them, I'm going to write a romance novel. I'm going to call it:

"The Art of Eight Legged Love";P =D
