I just got a little one a week or so ago... he's under 6" still... and he is eating 15 appropriately sized crickets 3x a day (but he's younger and needs this). He also eats a salad with my coercion  and I bathe him 2x a day for hydration purposes.

Lots of people were very helpful here, but www.beardeddragon.org was extremely helpful and continues to be. :)

Oh, and if I'm not mistaken... mealworms' exoskeleton is too hard for them to digest when they are young, even juvies. You might try some silkies or phoenix, but well "loaded" crickets are probably your best.

The care sheet on www.kakadudragons.com was great and www.beautifuldragons.com was very helpful, too.

Good Luck!

How large? Remember, you can't feed bugs bigger than the space between the beardie's eyes, or it might choke/get impacted and die. :embarrassed:
they are 3/4"-1" regular large crix. they arent any bigger then the space between his eyes. im feeding him the same size crix that his breeder fed him. he IS still a juvenile...but FAR from a baby! hes a big boy.:D

Heh... I'm not that well versed in "worms as feeders" :p but I think any of them with softer exoskeletons are okay... it's the beetle typle ones that have a really hard exoskeleton that is hard for them to digest and can impact or choke them and this can be fatal.

I'm getting some Lobster roaches any day now and I've been told by other Beardie "parents" that they are good feeders, too.

I have dubias also, but I haven't tried feeding them to the little guy just yet. I've tried them on my Crested Geckos though, and they won't eat anything larger than an inch, inch and a half... yet, they don't recognize the small newborns. Weirdos!

Out of curiosity, I may try a new dubia nymph with Hugo and see if he likes it. I just need to check with someone to make sure the exo skeleton isn't too hard for him at this age. He was in pretty bad shape when I brought him home last week, hence the reason I am "supposedly" rehab'ing him for return to the store when he's stronger and healthier.... mmmm hmmm... yeah! I think I may end up paying for him cuz I'm getting too attached to the little stinker. I never realized a reptile could have such a personality.

Anyhow, I'd like to double check before I do anything that may jeopardize his great progress. He doesn't even seem to be the same little lizard as the one I first brought home. The TLC is working wonders on him :D

Okay, I found out that "yes!" the dubia nymphs of appropriate size can be fed to your Beardie. They are soft enough and from what I'm told, Lobsters are even softer... I'm getting some of them this week, hopefully  (my USPS is not as reliable as I would like)

Do Lobsters stink? I know they can climb, but I'm prepared for that... I think. Ewwww! {D If they stink though, I dunno... and bite? Do they bite? Oh geeeesh!!

I really like my Dub's and treat them like pets, even.

I better go read up on the Lobsters some more. If they aren't worth the trouble, I'll pass them onto someone else. :p

as far as i know they dont bite...as far as the climbing you can put a band of vaseline close to the top of the tank you have them in. that will keep them in. they dont stink like some other roach species do. i was just saying the stinking and biting in comparison to some other species. not necessarily lobsters.

Okay, thanks! Phewwww... {D
Have you ever been bit by a very large cricket? OUCH! Those stinkers hurt! And they stink, too. I'm glad the lobsters won't be biting and having an odor.
Actually, I am able to keep the cricket bin odor down a bit with carefresh bedding... that paper stuff. It works! But I still dislike crickets quite a bit and they are getting expensive with all the geckos and lizards and s'lings and fish and so on. Not to mention, my dearest diva... Aneesa... helps them get out so she can have someone to chase and play with all over the house (in the middle of the night, mostly) Gotta love the cat!

no ive never been bit by a cricket! wow! i didnt know they could actually bite through skin. yeah i dont have a whole lot of problem with my crix cage stinking..but then again i clean it out every other day. so that helps alot. and they definatley do get expensive! i have my beardie and a uromastyx and 16 T's so i can feel your pain. the best way to buy them in my experience, is to order them from suppliers. you can get like a box of 500 of them for like 13 bucks!

I get my crickets from Bassetts Cricket Ranch by the 1000s, heh! I have to have 2s and 4s at all times for the various sizes of mouths to feed around this camp.
I fed my little Hugo a couple dubia nymphs the other day and they didn't agree with his tummy... the pooper or puker (can't really tell which it was) was "messy", so we'll stick with crickets for now.
I'm still waiting for the lobsters to arrive. I hope my mailman didn't lose them some place. :?

How's your little Beardie doing these days?

The crickets come in very healthy and appropriately sized  but I further gutload them with fruits, veggies and high quality crushed kibble (cat or dog).

Someone on a forum is sending me the lobsters, so hopefully they will be along today or tomorrow. They were probably delayed due to holiday stuff and then Ford's funeral.

You don't give your Beardie a daily bath? Hugo was a little nervous at first and he would jet outta the tub (a skippy pb jar lid), but then he figured out how to hold onto my pinky finger and lounge in there. The only time he gets antsy is when the water cools down. Now, he actually just sits in my cupped hands, under the running water tap. He's soooo spoiled. {D

A regular bath can insure that your fella is hydrated properly, too. And it really gets them started for the HUNT! :D
