Hello,I'm new here and am from Malaysia,i've been thinking of keeping spiders since my dad had a pet tarantula and a snake,so just wanted to try it out although i don't like insects so much.

Well,i've just captured a what seems to be a cellar spider? and just wanted to know how to keep one,i'm currently holding him in a test tube in the mean time.

It's a pholcid and I'm surprised you haven't encountered many more of them. Common in just about every house in S.E. Asia. Easiest way to take care of them is let them free roam. Release it up near the ceiling in a quiet corner. It will make a web and take care of itself. Put a piece of fruit near it's web now and then to attract fruit flies for it's food. No other care needed. BUT beware. They are VERY sensitive to insecticides. No spraying for ants of mosquitoes in the house or goodbye spider.

They like to web up the tops of the enclosure my 2 eat fruit flys and once full size will take larger pray like meal worms they but probably take crickets but I don't use them often only as treats for my spoods. They don't move around much and don't seem to be bothered or even react when I am doing maintenence. I have had one female for about a year I took her off my cat she had a sack so I know she is a she . We were only keeping her till her baby's hatched and did their first moult and when we released them in the cupboard the mum stayed, the other again I took off my cat recently and once fed up because it's so skinny will be released bk into the house. I think you have chosen well for your first spider , I started with house spiders about a year n 5 months ago, I now have 39 tarantulas and 10 true spiders they are definitely addictive, have fun and good luck to you and your new friend 😊

Place the spider in any corner of the apartment, preferably in a corner on the ceiling... it will settle in and live there. Our house is full of these species and they are proving useful. They decimate the mosquitoes in the summer and also catch the house crickets, which escape me. If you understand how they live, you will find them everywhere!
