I went and picked up a black African trapdoor spider I'd appreciate any tips on how to care for it

Your best bet is to do the following in this order

1. Research BEFORE you get animal.
2. Come to forum ask questions after #1.
3. Continue to do research after getting it
4. Ask questions regarding the specific research you have learned.

NO experience here (but definitely some envy!)
But I have heard you should start a deep burrow at edge of container so you can see your spider. If she/he makes own burrow, you may never see it again.
