I'm planning on getting an asian forest scorpion for my empty 20 gal. I've seen that pothos, philodendron, and spider plants are safe for them but does anyone know of any other plant species that are ok? I would love to add a monstera, are those ok as well? And I haven't seen anyone state a specific brand and model for which heat lighting is best for them. pls help!! Lol

Most of the time it doesn't really matter if plants are poisonous, they should not have sharp spines or thorns, is all.

Montera, Scindapsus, Epipremnum are not acctually pisonous as far as i know, they like most Aroids contain calcium-oxylate-crystals that will mechanically damage soft-tissue/cells if consumed, however i am not sure how it affects invertebrates or if it does at all.

(unlike Tabaco for example, that contains Nicotionoids, which have been used as a very effective insecticide)

I'd maybe stay away from any Euphorbias as well since the toxic sap/latex can cause skin burns, but it is also capable of vaporizing and damaging the respiratory organs if taken in.
Since arachnids can't regulate the air intake of their booklungs any airborn hazards should be avoided.
Not to mention many of them have spines.

Thank you so much! No other site has any form of info about that. I really appreciate it.

would you be able to specify a brand/model of heated lighting? That's also something I haven't seen info on.

i have choosen strictly low light plants, Epipremnum aureum for example because they do well even without adding light, as long as the room itself gets fairly bright.

these do fine even without direct sunlight.
Monstera sp. should be about the same. What plant do you have? Monstera andersonii or perhaps Monstera sp. 'Peru'?

if your spot is too dark or if you want healthier plants you can supplement light, but i dont have any personal reccomendations.

i have heard that cheap LED lights on a timer are the best since they dont heat up as much and do perfectly fine as a light supplement for the plants.

another member i trust reccomended these to me once:

LAMPAOUS Led Unterbauenleuchten Kabinett Kuechenlampen Dimmbar Rund 6er Set Vitrinenbeleuchtung insgesamt 15 Watt led Schrankbeleuchtung Kaltweiss 6000K 12V DC

... i just havent gotten around to trying them yet, i dont think the exact model is still sold but anything similar should work. its basically a kitchen light you mout un the underside of the cubbords.

Just remember care for the scorpions first and foremost, if the plants survive that care great, if not a tank can look fantastic even without them.

here is a hopefully helpful read:

An AFS without plants is like a fish without a bicycle. Their paths may inadvertently cross but an AFS hanging out in the foliage as as likely as said fish taking said bike to the 7-Eleven for a snack.

Im just into realism. If I can give my pets a simulated environment similar to the one they'd be in if they weren't captive, I would like to.

Put a few pothos or something in don’t make it look like a Jungle that’s not realistic they live on a forest yes but plant aren’t useful for much. I just added one to my biggest tarantula cage . You can always put some plants in your actual invert room I just don’t have space in mine .

With due respect to you. You don't want an AFS in situ natural environment. Down between the detritus and the dirt. Lots of decomposing debris filled with potential prey.
A dangling bougainvillea got in on the exciting scenery.
It's pissed off and came to the surface. I was trying to move that concrete block.

I really like the creeping fig! I have them in some enclosures and they will attach aerial roots to cork bark and look great. They grow really well in low light and are easy to propagate and put in more enclosures if you want to.

I got mine off biodude and it grows like crazy, even after some other plants have died or don’t look too great and my grow light went out. Can’t lose with that one.
