Hi all,
My juvie chaco, Rand went into molt today. Apparently, an evil ass cricket was burrowed down. It got him on the leg (no longer weeping). However, on his carapca, he has a weepy area. I have new skin, but it smells awfully vaporous. Is this safe?
Please help..

*HUUUUUUUUUUGE massive hugs for Holley*

I put the new skin on..I got your pm..thanks..:) I lifted the lid on his gladware, and the fumes were horrid. So, I lifted the lid, and sat with him in my lap.

The patch started drying rapidly, with the lid off...however, he does have a nice VERY REFLECTIVE patch, where the new skin is..
I just reached in, and very carefully touched it..its dry..

He's very lethargic..but, no curl...I'm going to mist his enclosure, and get it nice and moist for him..

Mostly, he's sleeping in my room with me...

Dave..*hugs* thanks...

Scott? throw me out if you must, but I need to vent...

stupid, f------ crickets..evil, nasty p-----. Mostly, stupid, dumb--- t owner.
Thanks..
Gillian

Just a reminder........

Chacos do not like very high humidity, even a juvie........

stronger this morning

Hi all,
Rand is better this morning. He has a gawdy, shiny patch on his back, but its dry. He's walking around, and doing fine. Damn crickets! Stupid owner!

He slept in my room last night, right by my bed. Thanks for all the kind wishes..

To add humor to this, thank the gods he wasn't a Orange Bitey T. Now THAT would've been an interesting experience, getting the New Skin on him...

A question; when I put it on him, he cringed, and the leg next to the wounded area curled up, towards the New Skin area. Does this sting? (I know it does on me. I used to use it when I was bartending) Do tarantulas have pain sensing capabilities?

Thanks everyone..(hugs)

Nu-skin is a new form of band-aids.You more or less paint it on over the wound. It dries to a film and seals the wound. It's made for humans but works fine on T's.I got mine at the drugstore in the band-aid section...peace..

All have been used to successfully treat tarantula injuries, but the list of ingredients in nail glue, superglue, etc. (along with the list of warnings about their use) is fairly disquieting. To my knowledge nobody's ever proved they can harm T's, but this concern inclines me to prefer the use of Nu-skin for bleeding wounds if it's at all possible.
