Beautiful snakes! I would say that the second is very probably a black kingsnake. Actually, the species is better known as the common kingsnake. It has a number of subspecies, this being one of them. They occur throughout most of the United States. They might eat your small chicks, as well as other snakes, lizards, mice, etc.First one is a corn snake, second one is a black king snake I THINK. We caught it trying to get in with our baby chicks last summer.

I love the first snake. I actually acquired one of those when I was in HS. I was working at a landscape supply company and one came in on a pallet of hardwood mulch. I was the only one willing to catch it and care for it. That little guy had tons of attitude.
