So I keep my jumpy boi in this glass vivarium jar. As you can see, it is an airtight seal. I open it every day to lightly mist so I know it didn't suffocate. One night I put a cricket in and waited for him to pounce, but he never came out. I left the cricket in over night and still no bite. I have no idea where he is and I'm not trying to rip apart the vivarium to stress him out further. I kept my phone flashlight on over the top of the jar and watched for 20 whole minutes before giving up. Any thoughts?

It looks like I see it dead in the corner there?
That enclosure doesn’t look like suitable for a jumping spider.
Sorry for your loss. :(

That thing is definitely dead right there in the corner.
No that pic was of it alive to show it in there. It's not in that spot any more. Can't find a body to confirm a death. It's just gone

If the first post was an old photo, then we can’t really help I’m afraid. Without photos of every inch of the enclosure, it will be up to you to go through it and see if you can find him.

However, as others have said, in an airtight container I would imagine you’ll be looking for a corpse unfortunately…

like most spiders they really don't do well if they are not well ventilated

The only spiders I’ve heard that don’t need air holes but you open the lid every once in a while is widow spiders.

Thats a big bummer to learn. I got the jar and the spider from the same spot and the vendor said everything was fine. Guess they were just lookin for a cash grab. I feel really bad

The enclosure needed some sort of ventilation to allow good airflow. Without it, it becomes a humid death trap. Sad to hear your loss. But I hope you don't give up.

I'm coming to this website first before hearing the vendor out for now on. Silly me for thinking they would have the spiders best interest in mind. I feel real bad. He was my homie for the week I had em

It’s okay. If you ever have any questions for your future jumping spider, we will be glad to help. 👍🏻

Except the dead spider in that pic is covered in mold, so if it's not there any more it is because it is completely decomposed and has been consumed by the cleaning crew in the viv. So it's been dead since you took that pic or longer. Sorry your spider died!

I wouln't say a closed eco System is impossible. But boy, that'd need some serious biology skills.

It was definitely alive in that pic. The pic is its first seconds in the viv. Couldn't be a build up of mold that fast haha
