...its called my bedroom! it was in a plastic jar with a screw top lid and i hadn't seen it out and about in about a week, so decided to take a look in the substrate. Long story short, it was 100% gone. Musta squeezed out one of the ventilation holes. He was about 1 inch. I dont mind him running around now, enjoying his new found freedom, but certainly wouldnt wanna encounter him in a years time! :)

I am now absolutely paranoid about my centipedes doing the same thing becaue prior to this i'd never had an escapee!!!

eeeeep! I actually got rid of my pede because I was afraid it would escape. I had it in a large KK and it would go around the whole thing testing out the openings with its jaws all the time.

I keep the cages of my most venomous (Leiurus quinquestriatus. A. australis, P. liosoma, Androctonus bicolor, etc.) in a large glass tank. This prevents escapes even if they escape the tub.
If you have a concern about escapee pedes, you may devise a similar "safety cage".
It's my understanding that pedes can't climb smooth surfaces, so maybe using packing tape in the corners of the tank (silicone areas) will help, although I'm not sure they can climb inside corners at all. It would have to be tried out, I'm sure someone already has!
(The tape may actually help them to escape.)

thread title is a great escape announcement!

as far as tape goes for centipedes.... yes, they can't find purchase on the surface of slick tapes... but they can find purchase on the edges... so unless you have tape about 25% wider than the bodylength of the centipede you would probably just end up building an escape ladder for most species

i am a big fan of plastic jars with screw top lids for centipedes. a few tiny holes for vent and there is no way the centipede can escape. tiny holes should prevent the centipede from chewing out (yes, they can use their fangs to "chew" through thin plastic if they have a big enough starter hole to get good leverage with)

Yeah, I was thinking the edges too.

Screw tops would seem to give peace of mind!

I thought the same thing. {D

I have a L. variolus roaming around somewhere.
Also, a 1 &1/2 inch L. parahybana escaped, the next morning, my girlfriend found it on the ceiling(Look everywhere)

PS: Sounds like a pretty big bedroom.

I am planning on ordering some of these. These are 15x15x25cm and cost around $10.00. I like the glass jar idea but would worry about lack of cross ventilation. With these i can melt small holes with the end of a heated paperclip.

For bigger pede species i've used 10 gallon aquariums with screen lids and used clamps to hold the lid down never had an escape. I did have a 3-4in. S. cingulata escape from a mini kritter keeper before never found it, and yes we have dogs and cats lol. Its pretty dry up in Ohio so pretty sure it dehydrated and keeled over in a day or two.
