Hi all!
Thank you for all the advice and suggestions when I joined this board. Based on many recommendations, I purchased a Euathlus sp "red" mature female and she arrived a few days ago. I had an enclosure set up for her but I just didn't expect her to be quite so small. She was in a 5.5 gallon aquarium with acrylic drilled top. That thing was just way too big so I will hold on to it for my A. anax to move into someday. Even after dumping a whole bag of Eco earth in there, the distance from the top to the ground was too far and definitely a dangerous falling risk.
I have her in a new enclosure now. Still a bit big for her but since they like to explore I think it could be ok. She's about 2.75 inches and distance from top to the substrate is about 3.25 inches. She has a hide and a water dish. So how does it look? So far she's climbing all over to check it out. The lid to this enclosure lifts off rather easily, there is no clasp but is that ok?Also I gave her a wax worm and she walked over it without even caring!
I tried to get a good picture of her but the lighting isn't great and I dare not lift the lid because she will cruise right out of the enclosure. She is lovely and very curious. Her name is Ramona.
Edited to add: I also have a 5 month old sling, her baby. It is in a small deli cup with semi damp Eco earth and some spagnum moss. No sign of that baby today so I'm assuming they are buried/burrowing.
On a totally side note, I had to put my 13 year old cat to sleep yesterday. I'm pretty sad so it is nice to work on these enclosures and focus on the Ts for a bit. I don't know about you guys, but I sure get attached to my critters!
