My mom suprised me with a new horse yesterday, and I thought I would share some pics. I knew she was getting it, but I had no idea he was for me. His name is Ace, hes an 8yo Quarter Horse. Right now hes just a trail horse, and cow pony, but my mom and I are going to be taking some polo lessons, so he might soon be a polo horse. (Im not sure how hell feel about that, lol.)

I took him out for a walk for the first time today, and he was great. I cant get over how sweet and intelligent he is. He lives in a paddock with my moms mare, and my sisters retired jumper, and the mare doesnt like him, and wont let him near the jumper. So when I put him back after walking him, he immediatly started figuring out a way to open the gate. I had to put an extra chain and clip on the gate, just in case.

Anyway, this is him:

His eye is really weepy, we think hes not used to the flies we have here. I put some fly repelent around his eyes, and stuck a fly mask on him. The vets coming out tomorrow, and will hopefully give us some drops.

Since Im sharing horse pics, I thought I would post some of my other horse Scout. Hes a thoroughbred that used to be my show horse. He has a heart condition, and isnt ridable anymore, so hes just a pet. Kind of like a big dog, lol.

i dont know much about horses, but my sister does. She rides on the team at her college (actually the best on her team). And she owns two horses, one of them she spent a week in germany trying out all these different ones. Personally their large size freaks me out, i can handle 10 foot snakes, i can handle big dogs and spiders, but horses i always feel like they are going to hurt me, even if just by accident.

But shes into them, and the fact that they spend tens of thousands of dollars for her to have top show horses means they make it up to me by buying me my guitars and all my concert tickets :D

They are definately beautiful animals, just something i prefer to look at and not touch.

I'm with you. Nice horse but I'll never ride one again.

My family is the same way about showing. My dad is the leading equine surgeon in the world, when it comes to lameness in horses. He works on all the top show horses, and some race horses. My sister is the captain of the womens equestrian team at TCU in Ft Worth. Its insane. I used to be as into it as they were, but could never equitate like my sister could, so had a harder time of it.

I hope to do some barrel racing, and polo with Ace, but just for fun. The competition is nice, but I enjoy just having fun with the horse, and being a team. Alot of the show horses are just turned into drones, very sad imo.

im not sure how she treats her horse, but im sure its as good as she possibly can, i know she loves it like nothing else.

I agree, if i were to be on a horse (i do ride occasionally on vacations) it would be just for leisure, like ive done trail riding in Arizona and Costa Rica. I dont have the patience for showing, she practices about 4-5 hours a day 4 days a week (before college it was 3-4 hours a day every day, yikes!).

Im too lazy for that kind of dedication.

I’m glad to hear it’s just for fun because Polo is so hard on the ponies. If you get serious about it you need to bring at least 6 ponies to a match and switch em out. Barrels are just fun haha. He looks like he would be awesome for barrels…not Gona lie I’m a little jealous ….My mom never bought me a horse and I’m spoiled. Where did you guys get him he looks like he has a winter coat? He sure is a good looking one. And I can’t forget about Scout he is a cutie…but I just love thoroughbreds.

Congrats!!!!!!

Thanks Stephanie! We live next to the polo field in our town, and usually go watch the matches. You are joking about it being hard on the horses. Its a real shame, many of them get used up then tossed to the side.

We got Ace from a Western trainer in Colorado. We get all her Quarter Horses from her, because they are guaranteed to be healthy and well trained. She does the Ray Hunt method with all her horses so they are just incredible to work with.

Scout is my baby. I will always think he is the prettiest horse out there, lol. He actually has really good bloodlines. His sire's line includes Nasrullah, Hyperion, Nearco, Princequillo, and Count Fleet in two places. His dam has nothing fancy unless you go back a couple generations, then you find Fairplay and Bold Ruler. But despite all of that nice regal blood, he ends up with the registered name Razzma Jazz. :wall:

Hey cool! Did I tell you Randy's going to get me a new horse in a year or two once we're settled in VA? Woohoo! I haven't yet told him that a decent saddleseat horse costs around $20K, he can find that out later.

None of my mares ever liked the geldings unless they were in season, and then they were all over them. We usually kept the geldings seperate since we didn't want them injured come show time.

I need to go to TX again!

LOL one of my stallions used to try to eat toads. Chewed it up and spit it out. Nasty, and really no way to keep him from doing it unless you were physically there and could rescue the poor thing.
