No idea on the true bug, but...
The phorid fly is Megaselia scalaris. I hate them with a passion.
Second fly is a fruit fly Tephritidae.

ZephAmp- THANK you so much for those 2 ID's! :worship:

Like you, I HATE those Phorids with a passion. They get into everything. I won't even feed these to my Jumper slings. (Altho it wouln't take 5 minutes to catch 50 Phorids, I just HATE them, LOL) I was curious of their Latin name.

And that Fruit Fly... I never EVER would have thought that was a Fruit Fly! It was really cool to watch it drink from a drop of water. Everthing about it said "fly", but it's behaviour made me think "Wasp", too. I also thought it odd that it had no stinger or ovipostor, the abdomen was blunt. Could it be that it was a male? All these years in Florida, and I've never seen one... :?

Thank you again ZephAmp, for your time and IDs. :):):) S.

No idea on the fruit fly gender.
Best of luck fighting the phorids... This is my 3rd year locked in combat with them and I think I'm slowly winning. Keep things unnecessarily clean, and, if things get really bad, there is a parasitic wasp that preys on their pupae. I don't know where you can get these from but I'm sure if you really looked into it you could find them; check with greenhouse suppliers.

@ ZephAmp- Oh, I have no probs with the Phorids, as far as infestation... very seldom do I find them in my house or near my spiders (I keep a few Trues). I use traps to catch Bottleflies once a week, and sometimes I can find a few in the traps. I wish you success in your fight with them tho, as I know how quick they can multiply. I consider myself lucky that they have not infested my house. :)

The Fruit Fly I can't find an exact match for yet-but to know it's a Tephritidae is enough for me. very cool, that one. I am currently working on uploading my vids, and I have a few of it too. :D

@ Galapoheros- Thank you for your kind comments and ID! I had no idea that the True Bug is an Assassin Bug! (Is my Noobie showing???? :8o ) Triatoma sanguisuga is a blood-sucking... wow... now I'm glad that was at my Sister's house in Central Florida! {D (I'm sure they are here in the NE Florida area too)

My thanks to both of you!:clap::clap: S.

The males of these fruit flies are pretty cool. They do this kind of "dance" with their wings to impress females.

ZergFront, do you know of some videos that show this? I would be very interested to check that out!

I took some vids of this one, but now I need to find a video hosting site. FB no longer allows linking to videos....:mad::mad:

Thanks in advance! :)
