That's a hell of a spider to be holding. ;)

Very nice pictures and beautiful spider. Definitely one I don't have that I want to get.

Thanks everyone for the comments :) She's about 5" in legspan, I've got small hands, unfortunately.

Actually I wasn't scared in the least - it was like picking up a sleepy kitten. It's furry, cute, and not likely to bite. She was very easy-going and shy! The last pic is my fave too, that's why I added it as the last! Kinda like saving the best for last :p

I can't wait until she gets bigger! She's just so beautiful!

EDIT: OOPS! Yeah, small hands make for a small tarantula! :D Lol I'd better give up on forcing my brain to function today. She's actually pretty big, for some reason she just looks so small in the photos? She wasn't that small when she was on my hand! I got so excited being able to hold her.

Wow, such a beauty! I really really want to hold mine but they're so freakin fast. She'd be gone in a heartbeat, potentially leaving a little goodbye kiss. Do you take her out of her cage (in a cup or something) before attempting to hold her?

Thanks! She definitely is gorgeous. Mine acts like an Avic, seriously. Except she doesn't hang out in the open. Nope, I don't take her out in anything except my hands. I just reach in there and get her.

You either have the touch or so far real lucky. I'm not sure I could hold it. But I'm a chicken. But it is a very pretty T.

Holding an H. mac takes serious guts. I only have to think about holding my AF and she strikes a threat pose. Hopefully you have read the bite reports on these.

I've read the bite reports.. I'm not worried about getting bitten in the least. I believe any tarantula can be held, given the right circumstances. If anything I'm looking forward to holding my P. irminia after she molts so I can get some photos of her! :p

 well said!,yup ive let even my psyco ts(king baboon, earthtigers, pokies etc.)crawl on me,i just open their enclosures(watering, cleaning, etc.)and most of the time they are not defensive, and some will just crawl out to explore, but if they are rearing up and striking....uh yeah i won't let them on me,i normally don't handle any of my ts,but every once in awhile, ahhh what the heck, hee hee you go girl!! now next i wanna see you holding a haplopelma minax:razz: now that's a challenge! i know you can do it:)

i think sarah should be nominated as the T whisperer. But all kidding aside I really think all animals have a sense of wether they are in danger or not. I am not into alot of phsycho babble or anything but I have seen it many times with alot of animals.
When I raised snakes I had a freind that had 3 and they were tame as could be. The strange thing was if you let his mother walk in the room near their cages they would go nuts and start striking anything that moved. As soon as she would leave the room they would calm down. I even had her leave the room and come back 3 times and every time they would react the same way.
I know it's strange but I seen it so I could'nt dismiss it. I also had a few that I got from people because they were so mean. I would take them home and never have one problem with them. So although I cant explain it I think they do feel something from people somehow. I did read something once that suggested stress could be a factor. And the more relaxed you are around them the more relaxed they are.
So, All you need is some thoresene and you can handle all your T's.

Thanks! I'm happy she molted, I had been expecting her to molt for a while now, she's been eating like a pig :D Mine's a sweetheart, she has shown no defensiveness whatsoever.

Hey that's my theory on it. Any T can be held given the right circumstances. I'm not talking about just letting it crawl on your hand - I've always reached in there and scooped them up. I've held my P. regalis and C. crawshayi as well as my big female A. geniculata, C. brachycephalus and P. murinus...

H. minax? I've held my H. lividum, H. minax can't be all that bad ;)
