Howdy. Good choice for a tarantula. The "plain old" Avicularia avicularia is one of the more attractive Ts in the world, and is easy to keep and breed and as well, which keeps them affordable.

Welcome to the club STX. That's one pretty spider you've got there. I hardly ever see mine though since she's webbed up a huge corner of her enclosure.

I actually have a question about Avic. sp., In the pictures that i have seen, the"common"A. avic and the A. metallica look to be almost the same spider....what is the major difference between the two...??? I have a pinktoe, but am not sure if it is avic, or metallica..

I could be wrong, but I believe the A. metallica lack the red on the abdomen.

A. avicularia tend to be a bit more drab in color, and keep the redish purple hairs their whole lives.

A. metallica have a bright blue sheen in the right light. They have the purple hairs up until adulthood (mature molt), of which their abdomen is solid black.

might I add

That A. Avicularia has red hairs on the back legs while the A. metallica does not, A. metallica has nice metallic white hairs. and like TheEternal said, A. avic does have these red hairs on the abdomen as well.

In other news:

Welcome to the board STX

It's a pleasure to have you here and hopefully you will visit often

if you have any questions about your new tarantula feel free to

ask and I'm sure the nice people here will help you with it (thrust me)

Your Avicularia avicularia is awesome! It's one of my favorite and

I'm sure it will be yours.

If by the time you read this you already have another tarantula

then that's normal don't worry about it and have a nice day

Woo, another Ontario person. I'm in Ottawa and I just got my first tarantula not too long ago. An avicularia geroldi spiderling.

Your A. avic. looks awesome! Does it have a name yet?
