Hey guys, just bought a new B. Smithi today and as soon as I put it in its cage, it went right up the glass side and sat at the top. And that was 5 hours ago :? I dont think she likes me  any idea why she's doing this?

From what I've read on here, the only wetness they need is a water bowl (which she has)

I'm saying...If the substrate was damp then she'd not want to be on it and that's why she's on the top.
Also...It can be stressful for them to be rehoused. It can take them a couple days before they settle in to a new home.

Lol, Welcome.
All the Ts that I've ever gotten has done the same thing. Too chicken to check out the new tank for a day or two.

it will become accustomed to it's new enclosure and venture downwards, however if you are worried about falling injuries you could raise the substrate

I think she's just scared to check out her new home right now. She'll be fine, mine did that, too. :D

Since a lot of T's are mild in nature, they don't need to move all that much. If other symptoms start coming up, then be worried. I think she is fine. Good luck!

Give it time! you just got it, It needs to get used to it's new surrondings. Just let it be for a few days and everything should be okay.

When she starts moving, she'll explore every nook and cranny in the tank, until she's satisfied she knows all the boundaries. Then she'll find a place to sit...forever:cool: or so it seems. I'm sure you already know to just be sure there is only 1 1/2 legspan space between the top of the substrate and top of the container, to prevent falling injuries.
B. smithis are beautiful, good luck with her and post pics:)

And when it does get used to its new home it may just sit in one spot for long periods of time, they can be boring somtimes... And I think I heard that a boring tarantula is a happy tarantula. But they can also be active and act like bulldozers!{D
