My African Giant Black Millipedes

These babies are between 6 and 10 months. Starting to look pretty sturdy. I'm going to separate them from their parents this week. It will be fun to see how many are in there!

Here's a mama. She's about 12" or better. I was suppose to get 5 more adults today but the deal fell through. Frustrating. And sad. This was the first type millipedes I ever owned. That was in the 70's. :rolleyes: they have always been my favorite.

Wow! To read that it can become 30 cm and to see a 30 cm millipede are two totally different things :wideyed:. :wideyed:

Sheer numbers! Once the babies start growing they can deplete the edible substrate. Some people worry about adults trampling babies but i've never seen that happen I think millipedes are generally pretty light on their feet And that's a lot of feet to be light with.

I'd imagine so. Millipedes have so many feet the weight distribution makes each step as light as a feather. It's great to see my precious little chorizo sausages glide effortlessly around, beautiful.
