Today we were going to do a can trap experiment outside, but the rain kept us in. So instead, we looked for examples of camouflaged insects in our pets. Here, she is looking at our hornworm, Sherman (I named him after my favorite football player). We talked about how his color helped him blend in, but also how his pattern could fool predators into not seeing him as one, solid creature. image.jpeg

Do you keep jumping spiders? My labmate and I were bored and got some P. audax to display in front of a small mirror. We wanted to do the mirror intelligence test (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror_test) for fun but I guess we lost interest. Might be a fun project to try at home!
