Monitor Substrate

So, I have a 27 inch long savannah monitor. I have had it on newspaper since it was a hatchling. Now that it is larger is there something else to put it on that would look more natural but not be harmful??

Cypress Mulch
Just watch him when he eats to make sure you dont get impactions.
Use the large milled mulch, like what you will find at home and garden stores.
