Mites!

I was looking at that thread with the red velvet mites and wow, those are so cool. Are those the only type of mites that people keep in captivity though, or are there other types similar? Also, I found some mites in my hermit crab tank that kind of look like tan/gray specks. What are they eating in there? Seems like they are all gathered up near the food dish. So yeah I'm now like all interested in mites and stuff
