They also eat sunflower seeds. They can live just on the seeds although I've seen some science supply sites that sell milkweed plants too.
I've never raised them but they look pretty interesting.
I find millions of them around a certain type of tree, and certain type of bush during the summer...usually they are mating (male and female attacthed) and walking around. When it warms up, i'll snap more than a few pics to share.
Maturing milkweed bugs may begin to sip water before they metamorphose.
(Experimentally offered water should be clean and drown proofed.)
Adult milkweed bugs are known to drink nectar... from flowers...in addition
to the seeds they need to feed and breed.
They seem to prefer healthy milkweed PODS to shelter their (future)babies.
Both "true" and "vine" milkweeds appear to be acceptable.
I find milkweed bugs upon both varieties.
