LOL, that is hilarious! Sometimes tarantulas can be such brats--little temper-tantrum-throwers! ;)

Thank you. It isn't often that a strange spider moment like that occurs, but when the T kept the position after forcibly taking the pen from me, I decided what the heck.

T's always flip over on their backs before they molt... is that really what you meant to say?

Sometimes Ts get so carried away, they fall backwards. It's nothing unusual.

Hampton molting isnt the only time T's flip over.
Some do it while attacking/wrestling with something.
Like in that picture. The T wasn't molting. Just being a pissed off tarantula and "beating up" a ball point pen.

Kinda think of when a cat gets made while your petting it.
Flip,, and it's all claws and teeth on ya.

I was moving it out of its burrow for photo-time, and using a pen to do it. It attacked the pen, got it in its fangs and actually took it away from me. As I tried to take it back it got it gripped tight under both and continued to do threat posture. As with Usumbaras and others, they will often lean so far back that they actually wind up on their backs. Once that happened and it kept the pose, I thought "Hell, this would make an interesting picture" and snapped one.
