Scorpion newbie here, with some questions:D

What is the best substrate for a Maffia scorp?
And
How humid should it's tank be?

Mine lives in a small critter keeper, with peat for substrate,
a water dish (lid) and a piece of cork to hide under.
It eats really good to.
Am I doing ok so far?

What is the best scorpion book out there?
I'll probably end up with more of these little monsters:D

While most people will keep this species on sand, peat is an acceptable substrate. In fact, I have been considering it for more of my scorpions recently. Room humidity is fine for these guys. Your setup actualy sounds like your standard bare bones scorpion setup -- in other words, perfect.

As for books, I would recommend picking up the Barron's book by Rubio entitled "Scorpions: A Complete Pet Owner's Manual." It is still the best pet-oriented scorpion book out there. The best scientific overview, IMHO is "The Biology of Scorpions," edited by G.A. Polis. From there, you can get into entire libraries worth and lots of $$$. I've recently ordered "Scorpions of Brazil" from France but I have pretty much hit the bottom of my budget at this point.

Cheers,
Dave

Is "The Biology of Scorpions" still in printing? Because it isn't anymore on amazon.ca :( Where did you get it?

Frank,

It is out of print. I use the copy at my university library.

I've been looking for a copy of Gary's book for a few years now, and no one has one. I guess I'll check at a local college.

What temperature do mafia scorpions need to kept at?

I recall finding that book listed years ago and it was well over $100. Typical textbook BS.

That's right on the mark. I paid around that for my "Scorpion Biology and Research."

I just paid $150 for a used copy in good condition, so $175 is probably "reasonable" if it's in good shape. It's not like there is going to be any more of them.
