That’s pretty spectacular looking how big is it? Are they hard to care for? Not like I’d get one anytime soon. Wish I lived in the tropics.

Not the tropics, this is mostly a desert species but can be found in meadows, woods, etc...
Lots in the Sonoran Desert, this is from inland San Diego (foothills) so pretty easy husbandry.
This one was about 4", they can grow to about 7". I think second largest to the S. heros in america

Beautiful! I wish my husband would let me get one of these. I unfortunately never had a chance to see one in the wild when I lived in SD.

Yes, supposedly they can get as big as 7". This very well could be one, and was in a region where 1 or 2 have been seen. From my check, was sure it was polymorpha but I very well could be mistaken. Your thoughts?

100% Polymorpha, at that size Aztecorum would have little to no banding, have much longer and thinner terminals, and probably begin to darken. Aztecorum can get to 7" but I am yet to see an 7" polymorpha. Regons of S. Aztecorum and S. polymorpha commonly overlap. With polymorpha being much more common.

Thank you for confirmation. That was my assessment as well and based on same notions. Yes, there is syntopy between these 2 species and samples have both have been found in the region. I am glad someone with better expertise on the subject has confirmed my call
