I can't believe I was able to load this vid with my cheap DSL package but the whole thing loaded. Well I've had a female Carlsbad Green for 2 or 3 years. I came across a male so I wanted to breed them. Yes, I keep some Aphonopelma in delis and sometimes switch them back and forth to terrs. It saves room and they treat the delis like their home, which is a hole in the ground. I knew the males vibrated but I had never heard it before. Since the male was on deli tops, I could finally hear it. Turn up your speakers though, it wasn't very loud.

Great video! Do females also vibrate? Did the male survive the encounter? It looked like he was being drug down into the female's lair

Yeah it's the "wuhwuhwuhwuh" and yes he made it out just fine. For some reason the vid doesn't show him walking away but it did after I uploaded it:confused:

the male tarantula moves it's body up and down very quickly... normally we cant' hear it (though the female tarantula can hear and/or feel it). since the tarantula was on the top of a the deli cup, the thin plastic acted like the paper in a speaker cone and changed the high energy vibration into sound we can hear

Sounds like a scientific discovery! That is very cool! Do scientists know that tarantulas can make sound we can't normally hear, like elephants and alligators do? Through vibration? Elephants have been recorded making low frequency rumbles that human ears can't detect. This video should be sent around.

It's old news but it doesn't look like it's been studied a whole lot ...for example, comparing the vibrations of diff species. If it hasn't been done, seems like it would be easy to do.

I had a male B. smithi that would regularly stop, pause, make a rhythmic sound while his body moved up and down, and then proceed walking. I could here it from his cage across the room!

 :worship: I never heard about the males vibrating, too cool. It reminds me of a bull-gators mating call.
thanks
