Light for American Toads?

Do American Toads need UVB to properly intake vitamins, or do they get it sufficiently from their diets? I ask because I know some frogs need spectrum light, but others can suffer sunburns and are just fine with gutloaded/dusted prey and proper heating.

Toads don't need UVB. I think the only anura that really do are arboreal species, because they're actually exposed to light.
Do you have an American toad? If so, can we have pictures? Also, are you sure it isn't a Fowler's toad?

Yeah most toads are nocturnal, so they don't need UVB if you're dusting their prey

Not yet, I've just been thinking about getting one, since my apartment doesn't allow most herps but is alright with amphibians.(Mostly just anti-snake bias, I think.) I prefer toads over frogs because they're less picky about humidity and I just think they're cuter.

I'm very familiar with the difference! We have both species in great abundance here.

Lucky! Around here you almost never see fowler's.

You're right about roads being cuter, by the way. Perhaps with the exception of certain treefrogs and budgett's frogs.
