At the Seattle Metro Reptile Expo, I got to see this guy crawling around outside his cage:

Do they make good pets? What species is it? Any other random info would be great :D

You'd think this is something you would have asked the guy who owned it. :}

You wouldn't be saying that had you been there. After the 40 minute wait in the line just to get in the expo, I was very very lucky to get this close to the table.

I think USDA/APHIS would have liked to seen that as well.

Ah, that's a good point. Guess it must have been pretty busy there.

Well, wish I could help, but they don't allow stick insects here in FL, so I'm also pretty unfamiliar with them.

Huh, there's some at the pet store here too, but I don't know if they are "exotic". They are smaller than that one.

You can be permitted for exotic phasmids, and not all the big ones are exotic.

Yes, exotics are w/o a permit and facility. Natives (to your state) are fine, unless there are some state-specific rules I haven't heard about.

Ah okay, I wasn't aware they were willing to issue permits. I'm aware we have large native phasmids, but I didn't think we had any natives that looked like this. I'm not experienced with phasmids.

Thanks steven!

I've seen both F&W & the seller at numerous events & they don't bat an eye. There is also a USDA certified pet store that sells them nearbyish. My guess is that sticks are low priority here on this side of the Cascades. The F&W guys are always very interested in the turtles, however.

The stick pictured is Eurycantha calcarata, I think.

Ah ok. Past threads on here led me to believe that the USDA was going to go raid someone's house if they so much admitted to having an exotic phasmid. :}
